In August 2016, representatives of the Miami Heat made an announcement regarding the following.

Exhibition Games
The team will participate in eight exhibition games leading into the National Basketball Association (NBA) 2016-2017 season. The quantity of games is the maximum allowed by the NBA. The games will give audiences an opportunity to view how the team will perform with nine new players.

Preseason Games
The Brooklyn Nets will be the team’s first opponent at home for three preseason games. Thereafter, the team will host the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers. Its other games take place on the road, where they will encounter the San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets.

Regular Season Games
The Heat will play 82 games, of which half will be on their home turf at American Airlines Arena. The team’s season commences on October 26 and continues through the middle of April. Games expected to draw the most attention include matchups against the reigning NBA champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Chicago Bulls. The game against the Bulls will be the only time former Heat player Dwayne Wade will be returning to Miami during the season.
